Recentemente, il materiale nanocristallino biossido di cerio (CeO2) ha suscitato numerosi interessi per la sua struttura di tipo fluorite, la sua notevole natura redox e la sua grande capacit� di immagazzinare e rilasciare ossigeno (OSC) attraverso il cambiamento superficiale tra lo stato Ce4+ e lo stato di ossidazione Ce3+. I materiali CeO2 hanno un'ampia gamma di applicazioni, tra cui catalizzatori, celle solari, filtri che bloccano i raggi ultravioletti (UV), sensori di gas, ecc. Nel CeO2 nanocristallino, i vuoti di ossigeno portano alla conduzione dell'ossigeno.
