A limited edition work on Walter Ralegh's expeditions to America in the sixteen century, illustrated with two portraits. A limited edition with only two-hundred and fifty copies printed. This work documents Sir Walter Ralegh's expedition to the 'New World'. In 1584, he received a royal charter from Queen Elizabeth, authorising to xplore, colonies, and rule any "remote, heathen and barbarous lands, countries and territories, not actually possessed of any Christian Prince or inhabited by Christian People". Ralegh led expeditions to America, especially in search of the golden city El Dorado, but he never actually visited North America. With a frontispiece and one plate. Also with a life of Ralegh by Increase N. Tarbox. Tarbox was an American theologian and author. Collated, complete. In a full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light marking to the spine and boards. Institutional label to the front pastedown and to the rear pastedown, as well as to the verso to the rear endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound, though a little strained in places. Pages are bright and clean. Institutional stamp to the tail of one page. Very Good.
