Bumping to lower tip and upper and lower board edges on front cover. Inscription to 'Mrs. Long' to blank front free-endpaper by the author, Frank William Bayley (1863 - 1932), proprietor of the Copley Gallery in Boston. Neat pencil annotations to a handful of entries, with information such as corrections to subject names and location of a particular painting. Clippings showing some works laid in. Otherwise, a clean and bright copy. ~ZZ~ John Singleton Copley (1738 - 1815) was an American painter, active in both colonial America and England. He was probably born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Richard and Mary Singleton Copley, both Anglo-Irish. He is famous for his portrait paintings of important figures in colonial New England, depicting in particular middle-class subjects. His paintings were innovative in their tendency to depict artifacts relating to these individuals' lives.…
