To make housework easier, McClellan emphasizes organization and creativity. Tossing off tips specific and general, she moves along at a sprightly clip. Although nearly all her suggestions seem workable, some readers may quibble with her occasionally rather carefree ideas. For example, she suggests having stores deliver one's purchases. Aside from the fact that not all stores offer this service, doesn't the suggestion imply not much shopping at the discount venues lots of us patronize? Also, her family seems to be different from many others, for she suggests keeping bathroom counters "absolutely clear." Many if not most families with two or more small children may see more fantasy than working reality in this and other tips that apparently assume a single-child household. Such niggling aside, the book is jammed with good advice presented cogently and pleasantly. Mike Tribby
