About this Item

First American edition. xvi, 171 pp. Brown cloth with diamond like motif and minor ruling and decoration in blind. An influential work examining the economic disadvantages of using slave labor, especially as used in the United States at that time, offering opinions on the cause of the Civil War. GOOD condition, ex-theological library, with the remains of a spine label, a small bookplate and some stamping to the inside cover, first endpaper and copyright page. Moderate fading to the covers, heavy along the spine. Minor rubbing and soiling. Light fraying to the corners, with some pulling, fraying and loss of cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Two smallish areas of ink staining to the rear cover, with a few minor ink spots present as well. Thumbtip size singe mark at the lower page extremities near the gutter, affecting the margin of the title page and gradually decreasing and disappearing by the middle of the book. This has resulted in minor loss of paper to the title page. Interior solid with minor toning to the paper. Sabin 9856. Bookseller Inventory # 004971
