A Slice of Life (Slice Collection)

Short story collection by Thom Gossom, Jr., actor and author. His memoir, WalkOn: My Reluctant Journey to Integration at Auburn University, is his story as the first African-American athlete to graduate from Auburn. A Slice of Life mirrors the first season of life, reflected in a newly integrated Alabama of the 1960s and 70s. Tommy will miss the big game if he doesn t eat those dang Cold Hard Grits. A football dynasty permanently penalizes a father and a son in Crimson Tide, and a dimwitted army veteran has war flashbacks in Everybody's Crazy.

Thom Gossom Jr. is a professional actor, writer, and communications consultant. He received his Bachelor of Arts in communication from Auburn University where he was the first Black athlete to graduate. A walk-on, Gossom defied the odds, earned a scholarship and became a three-year starter. He is featured in the HBO special, Breaking the Huddle, about the integration of Southern College Football.
Gossom furthered his education with a Master of Arts in communication from The University of Montevallo. He began his communications career at BellSouth in the office of Public Relations, before striking out with Best Gurl inc. a public relations and communication firm. As President and Owner, his years of experience as an actor, writer and consultant lays the foundation for Best Gurl, whether assisting a client with a new strategic initiative or producing an entertainment piece.
As an actor, Gossom starred as the title character, Israel, in the NYPD Blue Emmy winning episode, Lost Israel, and in the recurring roles of City Councilman Ted Marcus on In The Heat Of The Night, Judge Blake Winters in Boston Legal, as Judge Shepard on the CBS Series Reckless and as Roy Carnahan on the CW Network Series Containment. Film credits include, Fight Club, Jeepers Creepers 2, and Miss Ever's Boys.
Gossom's writing credits include his published memoir, Walk-On: My Reluctant Journey To Integration at Auburn University, (State Street Press, 2008) and the Slice of Life Collection. Writing and production credits include the documentary, Quiet Courage: The James Owens Story about the trailblazing football scholarship athlete who integrated the Auburn University football team in 1969.
A much in-demand keynote speaker, Gossom currently serves as Chairman of the Auburn University Foundation Board, as an Executive-in-Residence for Auburn Athletics and as a Director of the Okaloosa County Tourism Board. Gossom has been a proud member of the Screen Actor s Guild since 1983.
Gossom and his wife live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
