Slide Guitar (Fretboard Roadmaps): The Essential Patterns That All the Pros Know and Use

Fretboard Roadmaps - Slide Guitar by guitarist and educator Fred Sokolow is an instructional guitar method designed for players who want to develop confident slide guitar skills across the fretboard. Created for electric guitarists from beginner to advanced levels, this book focuses on practical, real-world playing-teaching how to perform lead and rhythm in any key while building a strong foundation in blues-based phrasing and technique.

Using a clear, method-driven approach, the book presents essential patterns and concepts that translate directly into musical application. With standard notation and guitar tablature, along with diagrams, chord shapes, and scale patterns, players learn to navigate the fretboard efficiently while developing control and accuracy in slide playing.

Players are guided through core slide techniques, movable scale patterns, and stylistic ideas across multiple tunings, including open G, open D, open A, open E, and standard tuning. The included online audio features 47 demonstration tracks, helping guitarists hear phrasing, timing, and tone in context while reinforcing practice.

This resource stands out for connecting foundational knowledge with expressive playing. By focusing on patterns used by experienced musicians, it supports musical growth in a way that feels natural and engaging rather than mechanical. It is well suited for self-study, lessons, or for guitarists expanding their improvisation and fretboard awareness.
