Item description from seller

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. This small archive reflects on of Auslander's most significant literary associations, and includes original drafts of some of his most important earlly work. Included are four complete typed manuscript poems by Auslander, and one partial. Among these are 'Unfurl the Flags of April', 'Meadow Lark' (with a holograph correction), 'Jeweled Breathing', and 'Spring Fanfare'. The incomplete poem is 'Love and the Garlands'. Several of these are included in his 1924 book 'Sunrise Trumpets'. Included with these typescript poems are two drafts of a review of 'Sunrise Trumpets' authored by one of the greatest literary influences in Auslander's career, Dean LeBaron Russell Briggs of Harvard University. We have not been able to confirm publication of this work. 5 page typescript with significant holograph corrections and additions in Briggs' hand (has some tears, ink spatters); 5 page later draft (incorporating many of the above changes), carbon typescript on a thin onionskin (some nicks, creasing). Auslander (1897-1965), was the first United States Poet Laureate. 'Sunrise Trumpets' was his first book. One of the poems carries a note on verso in Briggs' hand to place it in his desk drawer.
