,Small Worlds and Relational Agencies offers a fresh perspective on the local societies of early medieval Iberia. Challenging interpretations that subordinate local dynamics to overarching political narratives, the volume questions the existence of simple correlations between historical processes operating at different scales. A series of interdisciplinary studies are structured around three main themes: the microhistory of ‘small worlds’, the social practices and micropolitics that shape them, and the relational agencies that unfold within their spaces of interaction and conflict. Together, they present local society as a powerful analytical lens for exploring collective agency, exchange networks, social mobility, and the transformations that accompanied the integration of these communities into broader sociopolitical systems. This collective volume invites readers to rethink the role of the local in history and to appreciate the analytical potential of small-scale perspectives.
