The Smouldering Flax: The Incomparable Comfort of Isaiah

Flax, when ignited, smoulders. Sparks follow one another slowly along its fibres. So it is that our love for God is often fitful and irregular. Isaiah tells us that God will not quench the smouldering flax so that the sputtering love of a believing heart is not despised by God but cherished so that it can be brought to a flame by His power. This book follows the vivid and lively writing of Isaiah with a reading for each day of the year. Here is encouragement and hope in a post-9/11 world. Here is pity that is unrivaled and comfort that is divine.
