The Text Block is clean, bright white, tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind other than a book plate of a prior owner with penned date of April 10, 1946. The book was published on April 7, 1946. The Binding is orange quarter cloth to textured green cloth boards, title in bright gilt to the title page, gilt title, etc., to the spine, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, and intact with wear at the head of the spine and an almost invisible small tear to the rear panel discreetly closed from behind with archival pH neutral materials. See the accompanying photos. 278 pages. 5 5/8" x 8 1/4". A semi-autobiographical novel about a woman suffering from a nervous breakdown being treated in a hospital for the mentally ill. The narration by the protagonist Virginia is told both in the first and third persons using stream of consciousness. The novel was the basis for the 1948 film of the same name starring Olivia de Havilland.1.
