About the Author

James R. Ball, "Jim" to everyone, is the president and co-founder of The Goals Institute, a company that helps individuals and businesses achieve their potential through goal achievement.

Starting early in life as a clerk in his father's grocery story in the small steel town of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Jim experienced firsthand the characteristics to mold success. Putting himself through college at Youngstown State University while working all shifts in the steel mill, Jim graduated with a degree in accounting.

Jim began his professional career as a staff accountant at Arthur Andersen and over a sixteen-year career worked his way up to becoming the managing partner of one of Andersen's fastest growing offices serving emerging businesses and high technology firms.

Jim left Andersen to become the co-founder and managing partner of a venture capital firm that helped launch and grow over twenty companies including The Discovery Channel. Jim served on the board of many of these companies and helped them grow and develop. As John Hendricks, the founder and CEO of Discovery Communications (The Discovery Channel) puts it: "Jim is an authority on goal power."
