Social computing has seen exponential growth in various application areas, enabling new digital contexts for almost any type of interaction. This growth is expected to continue in various domains as social computing becomes a new paradigm for the next generation applications. Social Computing Theory and Practice: Interdisciplinary Approaches offers a holistic approach to social computing with respect to the underlying theory, technology and mechanisms, as well as the challenges, opportunities and impact of social computing to any application area. As such, the book provides a much needed interdisciplinary perspective of social computing and delivers a concentrated body of knowledge with contributions from diverse domains and fields.
Panagiota Papadopoulou is currently a research associate at the Department of Informatics, University of Athens. She holds a B.Sc (Hons) from the Department of Informatics, University of Athens, an MSc with distinction in Distributed and Multimedia Information Systems from Heriot-Watt University, U.K. and a PhD from the Department of Informatics, University of Athens. She has worked as a visiting professor at the University of Athens, University of Pireaus and the University of Peloponnese. Dr. Papadopoulou has also actively participated in a number of European Community and National research projects. Her current research interests focus on web-based information systems, interface design and online trust.
