Social Security for the Construction Workers: An Analysis of Building & Construction Welfare Boards in India

Construction Sector has emerged as one of the important sectors both in terms of employment provider and output in India. It is the second-largest employer in India, after the agriculture sector. However, the recent boom in the construction sector provides a stark contrast to the plight of workers engaged in the sector. Workers in the construction sector are one of the most vulnerable segments inInformal Sector in India. The workers are not able to reap the benefit of higher growth in the construction sector. Thus, it becomes pertinent to analyze the effectiveness of Welfare Boards in providing social security benefits to a large number of workers in the construction sector.
