A charming work following the life of a sister, from a childhood of poetry and sweet sadness into adulthood. Written by Ernest Renan, a French Orientalist and Semitic scholar. Illustrated by Henri Scheffer, a Dutch painter in the Romantic school, and Ary Renan, a French Symbolist painter and social activist. Bound in quarter crushed morocco with patterned boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor chipping to the board. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot.
