Soft-Logic: A Guide to Using a Personal Computer As A Programmable Logic Controller

The next generation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) is here: software-based logic control (Soft-Logic) systems on PCs. They're non-proprietary, cheaper, quickly upgradable, easier to use, and often more robust than traditional PCSs. And this practical, hands-on guide shows you how to put one together, from design to implementation. It also introduces Fuzzy Logic, discusses DeviceNet and other communications schemes, and contains more than 30 real-world Soft-Logic applications.

Learn how and why PCs make better PLCs! PC-driven controllers offer many significant advantages over traditional PLCs; they are non-proprietary, many times less expensive, quickly upgradeable, easier to use, and often more robust. The automotive industry has led the way in utilizing the PC as a powerful, ultra-versatile process control tool, but others, including aerospace, machining, has and petroleum, and plastics are close behind. Here's the practical knowledge you need to help your company more fully realize the advantages of this superior technology. This up-to-the-minute guide provides a wealth of ready-to-use information and advice that you simply won't find anywhere else, including: A complete walk-through of an entire Soft Logic system, from design to implementation; Over 30 practical applications of Soft Logic, everything from HVAC systems to robotics; An introduction to Fuzzy Logic; A detailed discussion of DeviceNet and other communications schemes.
