About the Author
Dr. LeRoy Bailey Jr. is the senior pastor and chief executive officer for The First Cathedral, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, a congregation that has grown under Dr. Bailey's leadership from a few hundred members in 1971 to more than ten thousand today. He is a gifted teacher, preacher, and counselor, whose love for the Lord has lead him to equip believers for service. First Cathedral has mission outreaches in Africa, Haiti, and St. Lucia, as well as its own elementary school and accredited college.Dr. Bailey was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He received a B.A. in sociology from American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee; a masters of divinity from Howard University in Washington, D.C.; an honorary doctorate of divinity from Tennessee Baptist School of Religion in Memphis; a doctorate in ministry from Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut; and an honorary doctorate from Biblical Life College and Seminary in Marshville, Missouri.Dr. Bailey is the presiding bishop of an organization known as the Churches Covered and Connected in Covenant (CCCC). He is also a member of the General Council of Churches United Global in Anaheim, California, a founder of Pastors in Covenant (a mentoring program for pastors across the United States), president of the Chaplaincy Corp for the Hartford Police Department, a board member for the Hospice Association, and a member of Vision New England. Dr. Bailey has also served as chairman of the Luis Palau Crusade, 2001.For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Bailey has been married to Reathie Bailey. They have three children: Riva Nelva Bailey, a graduate of Johnson C. Smith College and an elementary school teacher at the First Academy in Bloomfield; LeRoy Bailey, III, a graduate of the University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut, and the coordinator of audio-visual ministry at The First Cathedral; and Michael David Bailey, a student at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts.
