Synopsis
This is a book about the Holy Grail of Family Business: creating lasting peace AND prosperity for families in business. My goal is to help families, from first to umpteenth generations, do a better job of leading, managing and sustaining both their families and their businesses - through their generations. The information, insights and strategies described are also useful for a wide range of other family business stakeholders - from external family members to non-family employees and professional advisers; from trade and industry associations to politicians and governments. My aim is to help improve the quality, effect and value of their interface with the single most significant, separately identifiable segment of modern day commercial society - family business. I also wrote this book to guide family businesses on their journey - to help them think more constructively and confidently about their situations, and to inspire them to work harder and more effectively to achieve their personal and collective visions and goals. It may even start a whole new family-life journey for them Jon Kenfield Melbourne, Australia
About the Author
Jon Kenfield Personal background I was educated in England and obtained an honours degree in Law in 1975. After graduating I travelled overseas and worked as a scuba diving instructor and safari guide in the Red Sea (Sinai); as an adventure travel program developer / promoter, photo-journalist and public speaker (UK); and as an underwater photographer on the oil rigs of the North and Java Seas (Scotland, Norway and Indonesia). I returned to England, qualified as a chartered accountant in 1982, and then worked for Deloitte in Zambia and Zimbabwe for two and a half years. I migrated from Zambia to Australia in 1985 and settled in Perth, where I established Australia's first major forensic accounting practice, for Deloitte. I transferred to Melbourne in 1992 to develop a national forensic accounting practice, got recruited by Ernst & Young the following year and left soon after to establish my Dispute Solutions in 1994. My primary professional passions: mediation, facilitation and problem solving, led me down the family business path to become one of Australia's most experienced and effective family business mediators and advisers. In 2004 I re-invented myself as a Solutionist to reflect how I worked with family businesses, developed and refined "Solutionism" into a philosophy and a methodology, and re-birthed my business as "The Solutionist Group".
