Synopsis
This book describes the amazing potential we have inside ourselves to reset the cells and restore the inherent self-healing process. It is designed to do just that, but our natural capacity for balance is a fragile one that can be offset by experiences in our day-to-day life that are left unaddressed. This text explains how to address the most common disruptors to optimum cellular communication, along with the scientific basis for why movement is medicine at every level of how the body functions. Only 20% of our genetic makeup is hard-wired and the rest is up to us. Many factors determine whether our cells will respond favorably to our experiences, and this book explains those factors in easy-to-understand language while also sharing the intricate goings-on at the nano-molecular level. How our cells communicate determines whether or not they become cancerous, express an auto-immune disease, dementia, or express equanimity, vitality, clarity, and positive moods. The same principles apply to aches, pains, stress, tension and general musculo-skeketal discomfort; they all respond to input between the cells and can be altered by our participation.
Nearly all major diseases and dysfunctions can be traced back to something that is within our ability to change by understanding the information presented in this book. Since many of my relatives died young, this quest arose out of a deep questioning as to why this happened and how to prevent it from becoming a family trait. How we move is a major factor. It is a powerful messenger across all systems. How our tissue and bones are prepared to perceive those movements makes a world of difference, as does our own perceptions of how we are using our bodies. When you read this book, it all makes sense: movement is medicine, and it's free! There are other experiences that provide natural 'medicine' for our systems, and from one end to the other of life - from pregnancy and childbirth through youth, middle age, and senior years, which decisions we make can be transformative for our day-to-day lives. Those types of 'medicine' are also described in this book.
"From cover to cover, this book is incredibly detailed and informatve as well as very reader-friendly. It is sure to keep both professional and lay readers engaged throughout. “Movement is Medicine” is a full and rich view of human development from beginning to end, with research in cellular biology, nutrition, epigenetcs, and movement. What is exciting about this book is that it opens up realms of healing potentials giving the living participant the tools, options, knowledge, and inherent gifts of Nature to be able to reach their full healing ability and longevity. I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn more on the path to self healing and natural, conscious living. Charmaine Larsen, Yoga and Meditation teacher
