This book is from the personal library of Lou M. Davenport (Mrs. William Slocum Davenport), wife of the prominent American dentist in Paris in the early 1900's. Dr. Davenport was awarded for his work with soldiers in WWI. He was the first to identify remains from dental work. Also honored by the Belgian Royal Family. He was also an amateur painter, encouraged by Whistler, with works in museums such as The Brooklyn Art Museum. Blue cloth boards with pictorial gilt device o front, printing and small pictorial device in gilt on spine. Spine mildly faded, rubbing to top spine end and bottom spine corners. Bottom spine end lightly bumped. Some light spotting to front board. PO name and other PO bookplate on inside front paste down. Set in on ffep is a newspaper article about Kipling's ashes being laid in the Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey and his home in Sussex being administered as a National Shrine. Some inscriptions on verso of frontis dated 1912. Interior in fine condition. Lovely illustrations.
