Gr. 4-8. Sixteen songs from eight operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan are given the deluxe treatment in this well-constructed volume. Black-and-white and color illustrations on heavy, glossy pages, which give the book strong middle-grade appeal, accompany crisp musical notation for both piano and guitar. Editor Langstaff's brief introduction is followed by selections from, among others, H.M.S. Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance. The absence of plot descriptions is disappointing, and although there is an index to song titles, there is none for the operettas represented.
