I grew up in Iowa in a family that loved to sing and to dance. My dad recalls going to 28 dances in 30 days back when the swing bands were touring the rural routes. My mom played piano and taught me to sing at home and in the church choir. I launched Singing Heart to Heart and the Young at Heart Music program in 2013 and since then I have led sing a longs and provided music experiences for hundreds of older adults, many with memory loss. My interest in playing music with seniors began when I saw the power of music while caring for my father-in-law. Unable to carry on a conversation due to his dementia, he was able to join in and sing all the words in perfect harmony when I played the old songs he knew and loved. I wrote this guide to help you use music to awaken memories, bring happiness and most importantly to help you connect. Drop me a line and let me know how it's going.
I'd love to hear from you.
