Synopsis

Sonnets to the Unseen: A Life of Christ is a collection of remarkable poems by Christopher FitzGerald that traces the events of the life of Christ and the daily life of Christian faith, and makes them spring to life in a refreshing and imaginative manner. The poet wrote the sonnets as part of his desire to recover a sense of immediacy and intimacy in his relationship with Christ.

In these verses, Jesus and the others in the gospels are illuminated in frequently earthy fashion, the author removing some of the unhelpful layers of sacrilazation that often obscures them for ordinary people.

About the Author

Christopher FitzGerald was a long-time resident of Oak Park, IL, where he and wife Margaret raised nine children. He writes of the sacramentality of things domestic, with a solid and forthright honoring of the world of grace found in human flesh. Mr. FitzGerald was also a lifetime Roman Catholic, and so these sonnets follow the pattern of the Gospel passages about the life of Christ as they are presented through the course of the Church's year. Most of these sonnets were written while on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi river, where the poet and his wife went to spend their retirement, and where he chose to bring this dream to fruition. The cvoer art is also by FitzGerald.

The poet/artist passed away on July 11, 2001. In tribute to his life and work, his family and a small group of friends published these sonnets independently, and they later came to the attention of World Library Publications.
