About this Item
Folded card, diecut at leading edge to simulate film perforations. 4 pp. B/w cover ill. & 13 color ills. 16.1 x 23.4 cm. From the text: "Image and sound operate as extensions of the artist's concepts as he considers the genesis and evolution of his Giant Soft Icebag produced by Gemini G.E.L. for Osaka's Expo '70. This is Claes Oldenburg's first kinetic sculpture. Rising in height from 7 to 16 feet, with a diameter of 18 feet, it also is his largest work to date." The backstory is rich. The producers rented a cornerless room used for fashion shoots to film Oldenburg sketching on its walls the genesis of the icebag and his thoughts about the Icebag. followed by his droll proposal that a string of them be erected across the length of US or even around the world. When the owner of the studio returned and found his pristine walls covered with scrawls, he had a fit. . . until he understood the present value of that heavily marked, white expanse. How do we get them off? Well, it couldn't be done, but they are preserved in this film and in three of the small illustrations in this prospectus. The film was directed by Michel Hugo and produced by Eric Saarinen & Associates. In the individual envelope addressed to me, with a cardboard stiffener that probably should be removed by a buyer. Only 2 copies in OCLC. **Free domestic shipping with direct order. Seller Inventory # 24906
