En sortant de l'école, Suzanne et Théo sont attirés par une superbe voiture décapotable garée sur le bord du trottoir. Le coffre est ouvert, il est si grand et a l'air si confortable que les enfants ne résistent pas à la tentation : ils sautent à l'intérieur. Mais celui-ci se referme aussitôt sur eux.
Bientôt la voiture est enlevée par des malfaiteurs, et les deux enfants se retrouvent passagers clandestins d'un bateau en partance pour l'Afrique. Suzanne et Théo mènent l'enquête.
