Laminated illustrated wrappers, 4to, 220 pp, colour ills. 605 lots. Easton Neston in Northamptonshire is one of England's finest country houses and was built by Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor c1685-1692 for the Hesketh family. The library at Easton Neston was, as described in Anthony Hobson's introduction, "a fine and increasingly rare example of a country house collection built up by successive generations of one family". The two major collectors in the library's history were Sir Thomas Dalrymple Hesketh, the 3rd Baronet, 1777-1842, who bought fine books together with literature in English, french and Italian, and Freddy, the 2nd Baron, 1916-1955, who was a leading customer of Lionel and Philip Robinson at a time when they held the richest stock in England as a result of their purchases of the Sir Thomas Phillipps books and manuscripts and other private collections. The sale sections included: Illuminated manuscripts; music; continental and early printed books; bibliography; continental illustrated books; English illustrated books; art reference; science & medicine; paintings: Chaucer portrait; English literature & history; theatre; eighteenth & early nineteenth century novels, including Gothic novels; natural history; sport; plate books, including art; military & naval; costume; architecture & gardens; atlases & maps; travel & topography; British Isles; Americas. Very Good. Print-out of prices realized laid in. Seller Inventory # ABE-66006
