Southbound Plane (Paperback)

Charles is a cat. Dash is a dog.

Charles is perfectly content to take life lying down. Dash, on the other paw, believes every day should be an adventure.

Dash has never flown in an airplane before—and perhaps there is a very good reason for that. But when curiosity gets the better of this spirited rescue dog, a whole new adventure takes off!

Full of curiosity, courage, and canine mischief, Southbound Plane: The Life of Dash is the sequel to Cold Paws: The Life of Dash.

Dash began her own remarkable journey as a feral dog surviving on the streets of Yellowknife. Because dogs cannot tell us what happened before they found us, we could only imagine what she had endured. Her fear, reactivity, and lack of social skills suggested a past marked by trauma and disappointment. Yet with patience, empathy, understanding, and love, Dash blossomed—and taught us just as much as we ever taught her.

She was the rescue who rescued me.

In loving memory of Dash, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in June 2024. Her pawprints remain on every page and forever in our hearts.

Today, the adventures—and the mischief—continue with Scottie Biscotti, the blue-eyed Siberian Husky who has bounded onto the scene and into our lives.

Dorothy Hilde is a mother of two boys. She lives in Saanichton, B.C. She has one grandson, Sawyer, and a mischievous rescue, Dash. She has a passion for photography, gardening, and art. Her favorite past-time is hiking along the seaside or in the dense rain-forest of Vancouver Island with her dog. When thinking of a special gift for her grandson, she came up with the idea for a series of children's books based on the antics of her rescue dog, Dash.
