Octavo. 395 pages. Hardcover bound in burgundy cloth with titles in gilt. The binding is quite worn and bumped, and there is some heavy pale spotting on the front hinge and front cover near the spine (likely from pest damage). A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Prior owner's mass market bookplate on the front flyleaf. The front pastedown has a pasted down note inscribed, "Mr. Henry Wheeler with sincere regards of Wm. Goodell Frost. Berea College, Apr. 1914". William Goodell Frost (1854-1938) was the third president of Berea College in Kentucky (1890-1920). He was the first to use the phrase "Appalachian American".
