Sovereign

Chemical warfare has obliterated the world, and the survivors have turned into feral beasts, save one colony, the last remnant of civilization. Orphaned by a vicious savage attack ten years earlier, Cori Cole was rescued and brought to the colony. Now 17, she is a nuisance by nature and deed, and she’s never managed to assimilate to the controlling laws. The colony’s founder shields Cori from punishment, born of his grandfatherly affection for the troublemaker. But when the old man dies unexpectedly, Cori is thrust into military service months earlier than prescribed.

The new wave of soldiers get chip implants that put surveillance tech inside Cori’s head, forcing her to escape before the colony’s deranged new leader gains evidence of crimes he’s long wished to punish her for. Cori’s rebellion against him becomes a vortex that draws everyone she cares about into her mess, triggering a harried escape that only she and her best friend Dylan survive. Told all their lives the only things outside those fences are savages, Cori and Dylan must run, risking death, chemical fallout, and love.
