Into Space

Into Space: An Interplanetary Preview by P. E. Cleator is a pioneering work of popular astronautics written at a time when space travel was still largely theoretical. Cleator, founder of the British Interplanetary Society and one of Britain's foremost advocates of rocketry, explains the scientific principles, engineering challenges, and future possibilities of space flight in language accessible to the general reader. Drawing upon the rapid advances in rocket technology that followed the Second World War, he discusses artificial satellites, lunar voyages, interplanetary travel, space stations, and the future exploration of the Solar System. Written years before the launch of Sputnik, the book captures the optimism and imagination of the early Space Age and stands as an important milestone in the history of astronautical literature.
