Space Simulation: Proceedings of a Conference Held at Nbs Gaithersburg, Maryland, September 14-16, 1970 (Classic Reprint)

Explore the cutting edge of space environment research from a landmark 1970 conference.

This edition gathers proceedings from the Fifth Space Simulation Conference, held at the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and co-sponsored by major aerospace and standards organizations. It documents the meeting structure, committees, and the range of papers presented on space testing, contamination, instrumentation, and materials under simulated space conditions.

The book provides a concrete snapshot of how scientists and engineers shared methods and results. Readers will see how programs were organized, who contributed, and how conference sessions were shaped by real-world challenges in space simulation. The material covers topics from contamination studies to radiation, thermal vacuum testing, and predictive testing, reflecting the interdisciplinary effort behind space hardware testing.
What you’ll experience

• An overview of conference organization, committees, and publishing the Proceedings.
• Insight into session themes such as contamination, instrumentation, degradation, and predictive testing.
• glimpses of specific research areas and experimental approaches in space environment simulation.

Ideal for readers of aerospace history, space engineering, and late-20th-century technical conferences seeking a documentary look at how the field organized and shared knowledge.
