Space for Sustainable Development

This book aims to raise awareness among youth of the ills that exist in society, which have been elaborately laid down into Sustainable Development Goals. This book further profoundly explores how the young generation of today who have a keen interest in Space contribute to sustainable development simply through Space4SDGs. Through remote sensing and satellite communication technology, Space contributes significantly to sustainable development. Remote sensing deals with analysing earth data as observed from satellite platforms. This is something Gen-Z possesses a real zeal for, i.e. Space. Sustainable development goals have targets and indicators. The targets are the overall vision in a particular SDG, and indicators specify the benchmark for when a particular target is said to be accomplished. SDGs can directly contribute to the targets like equity in education, and satellite internet can bridge a huge gap. This is an example of a contribution to a target by Space. Similarly, a target of SDG 1 seeks to build the resilience of the poor in natural disasters. Remote sensing by providing critical analysis can predict disasters or elaborate the severity and spread of a particular disaster. In addition, remote sensing can specifically aid in checking sustainable development progress through the indicators.
