Work in the "Spectacles for Young Eyes," series of novels, which was created to teach young readers about different cities and cultures around the world. Book reflects a mid-19th-century British perspectives on Russia and travel and includes black & white text illustrations throughout. 12mo (6 3/4" tall). 202 pp. Red cloth binding with gilt-stamping of Russians on upper board. From private collection. 1865 Christmas gift inscription on ffep. Cloth is faded with wear to spine ends and small split to fabric along lower corner of upper board.
