Original black cloth with blindstamped border and gold shield on boards. Corner and edge wear. Volume II has a 2" split in cloth at top of back hinge. Previous owner's bookplate. Based upon Mr. Annand's edition of 1858. Joseph Howe was the son of the Queen's Printer. He succeeded as a newspaperman before going into politics. He opposed Confederation, and claimed that he had brought democracy to Nova Scotia. Vol. I has 668 pp., and Vol. II has 672 pp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
