Unique presentation copy. The published copy appeared a year later under the title of "Sphagnacea or Peat-Mosses of Europe and North America" (prospectus attached to front pastedown) with lithographic plates in lieu of the actual specimens that are in this volume. Folio (10 x 14 inches), printed title-page, lithographic dedication page in a facsimile of the author's hand and printed index leaf, 54 leaves of dried sphagnum specimens, between one and six samples per page, mounted on cards and with packets of purpose-made folded envelopes to hold the spores (leaves 6, 12 & 53 with no specimens), each leaf with manuscript numbered descriptions on mounted paper labels, versos blank, three manuscript corrections to index leaf. Ink presentation inscription beneath - "Presented to Botany Department of the University of Bristol, Dec 6th 1920 by Mr Walter Derham." A very good and clean copy.Original half red cloth, by Fisher & Stidstone of 13 Moorgate St., with their label, prospectus for Braithwaite's book tipped in, ties slightly defective, minor wear but still very good. "The prospectus said there would be 50 copies at 25 shillings each, though in the end there were 66 sets" - Sayre pp.184-5. Seller Inventory # 74605
