Spiritual Disciplines: A Practical Guide for Busy People

Spiritual disciplines are repeated behaviors carried out to help us be receptive to God's grace, increase our love for God, and become more like Jesus in an intentional, organized, and ongoing manner. This book provides a Bible based, user friendly overview of 12 spiritual disciplines, including such practices as Bible Study, fasting, prayer, and worship. The information is intended to inform, inspire, and guide busy 21st century followers of Jesus Christ as they seek, through God's grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, to become more like Jesus.

The material is organized in a practical way, focusing on practices that Jesus spoke about or performed and then providing realistic ideas for applying those actions today. The discussion of each discipline is organized as follows: introduction via quotes of related Scripture, definition and overview, reasons to embrace the discipline, Jesus' example practicing or explaining the discipline, categories for the discipline, a personal story, hindrances to its practice, practical suggestions for implementation, and favorite supporting resources and quotations.

A key purpose of this material is to give any reader, but especially my grandchildren, useful suggestions for developing strong Christian values. This book is a logical extension of the lessons I have tried to impart in Guideposts for Living: Keys for Living a Successful, Meaningful Life and Daily Devotions for Grandchildren, published in 2020 and 2022.
