Wagner looks at 30 healing stories of Jesus from the Gospels. More than offering a Bible study, Wagner teaches a process to pray for healing as we read and study these passages.

Basing his work on the lectio divina tradition of praying the scriptures, each meditation begins with a prayer. Wagner includes the text of scripture (usually from the Contemporary English Version), a short explanation of the passage, a brief quotation from church tradition, and questions for personal reflection. As readers use this approach to scripture, these healing stories become times to enter into God's presence and to enter also into a place of increased healing and wholeness.

This book is styled as a workbook for either individual or small group study and includes space for recording notes. Wagner also offers several options for a deeper experience of these biblical stories.

Now retired, James K. Wagner served a pastor in the West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church. A graduate of United Theological Seminary, he also served as director of Prayer and Healing Ministries and the dean of the chapel at The Upper Room for nine years.
