Spiritual Values for Earth Community

Churches and the ecumenical Christian community have been intensely involved in environmental issues and climate change. As the scientific community has come to consensus and as the public disputes have raged, churches, church leaders, and the World Council of Churches have insisted that the ecological crisis is also fundamentally an ethical and spiritual crisis. David Hallman's brief, classic text speaks directly to these deeper issues and is now available in this updated edition. Hallman argues that threats to this world are largely based on our lifestyles, and that respecting the earth and building a sustainable community calls us to live such spiritual values as gratitude, humility, sufficiency, justice, peace, love, faith, and hope. ** David Hallman worked for more than 30 years on the national staff of the United Church of Canada, especially in the area of environmental ethics. He also served, from 1988 to 2006, as the coordinator of the World Council of Churches' Climate Change Program, based in Geneva, and was involved with UN global negotiations on climate change.
