In the backwoods community often wary of outsiders, the artists have encountered an eclectic mixture of lonely souls hiding in the shadows and prospering characters living an independent life off the land. Shipley and Dolezal have spent the past three years meeting these locals and collecting a variety of Ozark folktales that are presented in a series of photographs and nonfiction personal accounts in vol. 3 In a place where tall-tales are still passed around campfires and Sunday morning prayers can be heard drifting through the rolling hills, it's hard to dismiss the importance of the Ozark folkloric traditions.
