About this Item
Oblong, original decorative patterned wrappers, red cloth spine. Black leather label on upper cover designed and lettered in gilt. The book measures 10.5 x 7 inches, the smaller of the two formats in which this book was issued. Plates printed on rectos only. Large piece missing from lower front wrapper, and a smaller chip from the lower rear wrapper. Small chips to edges, remains of children's scribbling in pencil on versos of some plates, in general a clean very good copy with the plates handsomely coloured and in nice condition. The plates are mostly titled at the top: "Henry Alken's Scrap Book". This is evidently a selection from the larger work of the same title, also published by McLean in 1824, which contained fifty plates. A very scarce issue, particularly in the original wrappers.
