ALAN GOLDBERGER is an attorney and sports official. He officiated college and high school basketball for over 30 years, most recently working in the Northeast Conference. He also umpired college baseball for the Eastern College Athletic Conference; and was an active member of the New Jersey Football Officials Association. He is a practicing attorney and serves as a consultant to and defense counsel for insurance carriers in the officiating and sports industry. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, New York and Maryland, as well as Federal courts in the District of New Jersey, the Southern District of New York, the District of Maryland, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Al serves as Parliamentarian and counsel to the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc.; and is a consultant on legal issues to the National Association of Sports Officials. He has served on the National Federation Officials Quarterly Publications Committee. He is a Past President of the School and Community Safety Society of America; and also a past President of the North Jersey Board of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc. (IAABO Board 33)-- one of the largest IAABO officials organizations in the world. He is the 2006 recipient of the Frank C. Corrigan Award of Board 33 for distinguished service to basketball.

He is Chair of the Sports Law Subcommittee of the Defense Research Institute; Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Business Law Nonprofit Athletic and Recreation Associations Subcommittee; and is Chair of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport Committee on Legal Issues. He is the coauthor of SPORT, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND THE LAW, a college textbooks for sports law courses, now in its third edition.
Al has been a featured speaker at numerous national and regional conferences, including the National Association of Sports Officials, the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc., the American Bar Association, the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association, the National Parks and Recreation Association, the Medical Society of New Jersey, the New Jersey Council of Administrators of Health and Physical Education, the National Police Athletic League; US Lacrosse National Convention, and many state and local high school athletic associations, colleges, universities, and school districts. He has taught sports law and business organization law on the college level.
