Sports Training Principles

Written by the President of the European Athletics Coaches Association, this book provides a reference on training theory and practice for all who accept and pursue responsibility for developing athletes to fulfil their performance potential. It covers: anatomy and basic biomechanics; energy production systems; psychology, learning procedures and technical training; performance components - strength, speed, endurance and mobility; training cycles, periodization, adaptation to external loading and coaching methods.

Frank Dick O.B.E. was director of Coaching at the British Athletic Federation from 1979 to 1994. He is a former international competitor and continues to coach athletes and teams to international level, including Daley Thompson, Boris Becker, Gerhard Berger, Denise Lewis, Marat Safin and Katarina Witt. He is currently involved with Ronnie Irani, Graham Gooch OBE, Justin Rose, Ipswich Town Football Academy and Jean Todt (Ferrari Formula One Manager). Currently he is the President of the European Athletics Coaches Association and a board member of the UK Sports Institute, Scottish Institute of Sport and member of the IAAF Coaches Commission. Frank has also held the post of Chairman of the British Olympic Coaches Advisory Programme (1983-1994), and Director of Coaching for the British Athletics Federation (1974-1994).
