A delightful look at 20th- and 21st-century sports history through the archives of the Pirelli tire company

Founded in 1872 in Milan, the Pirelli tire company has a long history with athletics, especially with motorsports such as racing and cycling. Drawing from the legacy company’s archives, this volume sheds light on Pirelli’s historical engagement in a wide range of sports. A nonfiction section investigates the “behind-the-scenes” facets of the competitive sphere, encompassing construction sites and factories of sports products; the backstage of competitions; the voices, sounds and anthems; the staging and telling of sports in art, photography, theater, film and TV. The world of sports journalism, exemplified by noteworthy instances in the Pirelli Magazine, is also duly acknowledged. The volume ends with thematic fact sheets on the various sports in which Pirelli has featured throughout its history, ranging from Formula One, rally and motorcycling to cycling, sailing and soccer.
