Synopsis: Price includes shipping. This is an amazingly detailed 28 page coloring and activity book featuring the rare spring salamanders that can only be found in the Edwards Aquifer region of Texas. 6 species are featured: Barton Springs Salamander, Austin Blind Salamander, Georgetown Salamander, Jollyville Plateau Salamander, Salado Springs Salamander, and the Comal Blind Salamander. Each salamander has a coloring page, as well as facts and activities that help the child learn about the salamander. The book also contains word searches, games, crosswords, and a vocabulary section. The book is recommended for children 5 and up. These salamanders are very relevant. Not only are they extremely rare, but their fate is uniquely woven with that of the Edwards Aquifer and the urgent need to conserve water in Texas. Additionally, conservation easements and federal rulings have officially made salamanders not only a scientific discussion in Texas, but a political one as well! In fact, many developments have been delayed due to salamander federal listings and the downstream effects of projects. This is a great tool to teach young people about the importance of conserving rare species for future generations. For each purchase, a portion of proceeds will go to an organization that supports conservation of the Edwards Aquifer in Texas or the direct conservation of one of these species.
