[GIFT BOOK] [NOVELTY BOOK] [POETRY]. 32mo oblong (4 11/16" x 5 5/8"); [12]pp; stiff glazed cream-colored pictorial wrapper, gilt-stamped clover border at spine, decorative lettering, vignette of a pasture with fence on front; half title; 4 full-page lithographic illustrations; light foxing to rear wrapper, light hand-soiling to front; near fine. AAS #608883. OCLC only locates 1 copy at AAS. A small gift or novelty book of the type first made popular in the late 19th century. An uplifting poem praising the arrival of spring and illustrated with delicate lithographs. Ferdinand Schuyler Mathews (1854-1938) was a poet and author of natural history books, many for children.
