Eighteen librarians who have been in the field for under 10 years share insights about what transformed them over time. Written for supervisors and managers, the work has two parts: “In the Library“ and “Out of the Library.” The first part focuses on what can be done internally to develop the leader, both by the supervisor and by the librarian him- or herself. The second part focuses on how to find and develop leaders through conferences, associations, institutes, and other means. Each chapter stands alone, with no interconnections and some overlap. An in-depth table of contents aids in finding exact topics, although the subheadings often cover very brief writings. A useful book to flip through, though it does not easily identify staff-development ideas to fit a specific library environment. --Sara Marcus
