Standard Operating Silence: The truth was never meant to survive

STANDARD OPERATING SILENCE

Some secrets are protected by procedure.

Rafael "Raf" Rodríguez has spent a lifetime running towards problems.

A former combat medic turned paramedic and clinical educator, he has built a reputation for calm decision-making under pressure. Trauma, chaos and uncertainty are things he understands. Politics and bureaucracy are not.

When a series of seemingly unrelated incidents begin to overlap, Raf notices patterns others dismiss. A missing piece of information here, an altered report there and a conversation that ends too quickly. Individually, they mean nothing but together, they point towards something far more troubling.

As questions lead to uncomfortable answers, Raf finds himself drawn into a world of hidden agendas, institutional self-interest and people who appear willing to go to extraordinary lengths to protect what they know.

What begins as professional curiosity becomes a race to uncover the truth before it disappears forever.

Set against a backdrop of emergency medicine, law enforcement and international intrigue, Standard Operating Silence is a gripping conspiracy thriller that combines operational realism with intelligent suspense and unforgettable characters.

For readers who enjoy Michael Connelly, Tom Clancy, Lee Child and Matthew Reilly, this is a story about loyalty, resilience and the dangerous consequences of asking the wrong questions.

Because sometimes the greatest threat isn't the lie.

It's the silence that protects it.

Colin Bamforth is an ex-UK paramedic who has worked across emergency services in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia. He currently continues frontline work in remote settings.

His writing is grounded in lived clinical experience and focuses on realism, moral pressure, and the quiet psychological cost of high-stakes decision making. He favours restraint over spectacle, writing stories that sit close to the truth.

Shift Change reflects his belief that the most enduring moments are often the ones that pass without notice.
