Item description from seller

Exhaustive list of arbitrary words standing for numbers, terms & phrases commonly used in the cotton trade, offered as a cost-saving measure, as telegraphers charged by the word. Why say, at a nickel a word, "The course of the money market for the next few days will be watched with anxiety, and will influence the Cotton market" when you can say " Perennity"? First edition thus, with codes for international trading; the 1878 edition was intended for domestic use only. Hardcover, full green cloth, gilt titling. Corners rubbed & lightly bumped; couple ink notes on the title page. Text clean; 306 pages + 3 pages publishers ads; index, instructions for using code.
