For almost two centuries, Stanton Ironworks dominated the industrial scene in the Erewash Valley, and provided employment for thousands. At its height the works covered an area of 3 square miles; its associated collieries, ore quarries and other facilities were important throughout the East Midlands. This is a concise history of the rise and decline of the business, profusely illustrated by photographs (many not published before) and drawing on recollections from the workforce. This is a publication of the Ilkeston Local History Society, and the foreword is by actor Robert Lindsay - local lad and sometime Stanton employee.
