Starfall Book 1 (Starfall: A Tale in Two Eras)

In this extended tale of sci-fi-meets-historical fiction, Xenia, a woman with an integrated artificial intelligence, embarks on a mission to repair a malfunctioning relay at the edge of the wilderness now called the Flood Zone. As the mission turns to disaster, Xenia and her security contractor find themselves confronting a greater mystery in the woods, one that eventually leads them to a strange town in the middle of nowhere, where nothing is quite as it seems.

The town, called Harmonie, has a long utopian history. Half-abandoned for years, it has been revived by a group of secretive scientists and artists, who are still dealing with the echoes of a long and complex American past. Its traces appear in a set of peculiar 19th-century documents that chronicle the life of a free-spirited woman, the long forgotten reformer and troublemaker Camilla Wright, whose observations only deepen the riddles lurking in the heart of the forest.

For T. Newyear, the past and the future are two pages in the same book. A native of the Midwestern US, Newyear grew up in small towns and fading cities, inspired by nature and culture, tradition and radicalism in equal measure. She lived extensively in Russia, traveled alone across Siberia and Mongolia, and learned how the other side of the world related to her home turf. With a doctorate in history and area studies, she has a profound interest in exploring the details and lived experiences of the past, and imagining how those lost moments speak to our collective future. She is the author of The Tomb and the Stone, a historical fantasy about the search for the tomb of Genghis Khan, and Starfall, a sci-fi-meets-historical-fiction novel centered on the utopian town of New Harmony, IN. She has written numerous articles about music tech and Siberian history, as well as translated several scholarly books into English.
